Symptom: The car hesitates when pulling away, shudders at low speed, feels jerky, or the RPM jumps around at idle or light throttle.
Likely causes
- Software. Toyota's JSD campaign updated the CVT software on 2014–2017 Corollas and inspected a solenoid. Toyota Nation owners say it cut down on the shudder and RPM bouncing for most cars, though not all.
- Hardware found during the inspection. The campaign allows for replacing the valve body or the whole CVT.
- Recall on 2019 hatchbacks for the torque converter impeller.
Cost
Campaign and recall work is free. We don't have reliable out-of-pocket CVT prices for this model yet.
